Hot Chocolate Affogato
A perfect treat for this time of year, hot chocolate affogato gives you the best of all possible worlds: hot and cold, creamy, sweet, and CHOCOLATE! Â This easy dessert makes any day more special, for both kids and grownups alike!
This is a sponsored post, written by me, and created in partnership with iCoffee. Â All opinions expressed herein are straight from my heart.
So how about this crazy weather we’re having? Â Is it just here, or is this going on where you are too?
On Saturday I froze my tushie off at the little league fields.  I was dressed in dark jeans, a short-sleeved top, a canvas jacket, scarf, and sneaks with those little no-show socks underneath.  Should be fine, right?  For September?  I was so stinkin’ cold I had to go hide in the car for the last inning.  Just couldn’t take it.
Sunday morning I went for my morning walk in yoga pants and a workout top, and I was sweltering. Â So I quickly changed into sandals, boyfriend jeans and a summer top before heading to the fields again for round 2. Â Wouldn’t you know, by the time we got there, the weather had changed its mind again! Â Once again it was cold, windy, and overcast. Â This season just needs to make up its darn mind!
Because I seriously don’t know which direction to go in when it comes to dessert 😉  Is it ice cream weather, or is it hot cocoa weather?

Luckily we don’t have to make these hard choices because God is merciful and he has blessed us with affogato.
If you’ve never had affogato before, it’s a simple treat that’s basically just hot espresso poured over vanilla ice cream.  It sounds like nothing much but it is magnificent.  Something about that contrast of hot and cold, sweet and rich, it’s just magical.
But today I’m sharing a more kid-friendly version.  I wanted to welcome my kids home from their first day of school with something special- so we whipped up some hot chocolate affogato, using our iCoffee machine.  They love putting in the k-cup and pressing the button!
You can use any kind of ice cream you like or happen to have on hand. Â I really can’t think of any flavor that wouldn’t taste fabulous drowned in hot chocolate (or coffee!). Â My older son loves mint chocolate chip, and the little one is a total chocolate fiend, so it was chocolate on chocolate for him. Â I let them pile on the sprinkles themselves and they had a ball. Â We even made a little video! Â Check it out- it’s in the recipe card.
You may remember, I talked a lot about iCoffee in this post, but I just wanted to remind you that if you’re into drip-brewed, pour-over, or french press coffee then you will love this machine.  It features a unique SpinBrewâ„¢ Technology to create a rich brew, with no bitter or acidic aftertaste.  It’s compatible with all k-type cups so it’s super simple to use- just pop in a single-serve cup and you’re off to the races.  It’s available at Bed Bath & Beyond® stores nationwide.  Learn more at iCoffee.com, and be sure to follow along on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube!

I LOVE the video, Allie!! Your son doing a little roll/flip in the grass after getting off the bus had me cracking up! You are such a fabulous mom! I know my mother never had anything this spectacular waiting for me when I got home from school! But, that’s probably because she was never home.. #WorkoholicProblems. Anyways Hot Chocolate with Ice cream sounds absolutely DELICIOUS! I know Boy will go crazy for this idea! Pinned! Cheers, my dear! 🙂
Aw, thank you so much Cheyanne! He does that flip every day. Cracks me up!
I’ve recently been introduced to affogato, but what a fabulous idea to use hot chocolate instead of coffee. Brilliant for children, but actually I think I’d plump for this one too! 🙂
I sure did! Thanks so much Helen!
You do such a great job on your videos! You make me want to try my hand at creating videos for my site. I may email you for some advice if I ever get around to it. But let’s talk about these affogatos. I love how simple they are for when you’re craving something sweet in the afternoon. I think I’d be just as excited as your kids if I came home to such a wonderful treat.

Yup, same struggles here. I put the extra blanket on my bed three nights ago, but now I’m back to sweating in 80+ degree temps and humidity. So I keep flip flopping with what to wear and what to cook! These affogatos are amazing. The perfect treat for any occasion!
The struggle is real! Yesterday was 85 and tomorrow is going to be 58. ??? Ok well, stay cool/warm, girlfriend! Thanks!

I feel like jumping up and down like your son was doing in that video – at the mere thought of these! Wow!
I absolutely love that he did that! Thank you so much Shashi!
How cute is that video and your kitchen is spotless!! I could so do with one of these right, my throat feels like razor wire and I haven’t had a coffee yet. I like the idea of the mint choc chip icing cream with maybe a little hot chocolate and espresso over it, like a mint mocha affogato. Laura@ Baking in Pyjamas
Oh gosh that sounds wonderful! And I bet it would soothe your throat. Hope you feel better real soon, Laura!
