Long before I ever became a mom, I had decided that these shopping carts would NOT be happening in my life.
Image Source | And PS read the post it’s pretty hilarious!
They are heavy to push, impossible to steer, and ain’t nobody got time for toddlers hopping in and out of the cart when there’s shopping to do!
I take my shopping very seriously 😉 I like to get in a good groove, and when I do, it’s a moment of happy for me.
But I need to concentrate. And I need to get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible. No messing around. No chitchat. No hopping out of the cart to look at every little passing thing that catches a kid’s eye.
I do my best to schedule all shopping trips for times when either: a) the kiddos are at school, or b) my husband is home and he can mind them while I’m out.
But what can I say? Life happens, and it doesn’t always work out for you to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.
However, I am proud to say that for the most part, I have been successful in avoiding the car cart. There have been PLENTY of promises I made to myself in my pre-mommy years that have been broken to smithereens, but I have managed to honor this one. Reason being, I have a secret weapon.
Sit your child in the seat, the one that’s right in front of you. This way he’s contained. You can talk to him easily, look where he wants you to look, and even sneak in some hugs and kisses while you’re pushing from aisle to aisle. Buckle him in tight. You don’t want him standing up or trying to climb out.
And for the ultimate stress-free, efficient grocery shopping experience, invest in a donut.
#proparentingtip
It’s really that simple. When you get to the store, strap that child in a seat and head straight for the bakery department. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. DONUT.
You’ll put a huge grin on that sweet face, and enjoy a peaceful shop to boot. My little guy barely makes a peep when he’s got a chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles that needs his attention.
This strategy has proved so successful that he often wants a trip to the grocery store just for the donut. No worries! I can whip up a batch of Nutella® glazed brown butter banana whole wheat baked donuts in mere minutes, and spread the happy right from the comfort of my own kitchen. Homemade is always better anyway, right?
The baked donut is soft, and infused with the loveliest toasty notes from the brown butter. The whole wheat flour imparts a nice nuttiness, and the banana is such a great compliment to the chocolate-y hazelnut Nutella® topping.
Just smooth on a tablespoon or so, to top each donut. And don’t forget the rainbow sprinkles!
As a mom, there’s nothing that makes me happier than seeing my kids smile. When their eyes shine, and those faces light up, my heart swells. I’m talking warm fuzzies all over the place! Handing them a delicious homemade treat is a great way to spread that happiness all around.
Nutella® hazelnut spread is a happy start to every day! Pick up a jar of Nutella in the spreads aisle and enjoy it with whole wheat toast, waffles, pancakes, strawberries, bananas and many other foods. Nutella. Spread the Happy™.

Totally irresistible! Thanks for linking up with What’s Cookin’ Wednesday!
My pleasure Karly! Thank you for dropping by and saying hello! 😀
Hahaha this totally made me laugh and nod my head along. Grocery shopping can be such a PAIN with my 3 year old sometimes and those big a** carts don’t make it any easier that’s for sure lol. A DONUT is a brilliant idea – especially gorgeous Nutella frosted ones with sprinkles like these – they look and sound incredible my dear! And the brown butter and whole wheat flour make them even more irresistible – pinning 🙂
Thank you so much, Kelly! I know you know just what I am talking about! 😉
Ohmagerddddd, NUTELLA, BROWN BUTTER, AND BANANAS ALL IN ONE DESSERT? Be still my heart.
I had a feeling you would like this one, Meriem! I know how you feel about Nutella and brown butter 😉
I HAVE to have one of these! I just adore donuts and these look AMAZING!
I know just what you mean, Jess! I can never resist a donut either, lol! Thanks for the sweet comment 😉
I’m loving the idea of brown butter, banana and nutella it sounds like a yummy trio. Scrumptious look doughnuts! Btw good for you for not getting one of those car carts they look hideous, a doughnut is more fun to eat anyway then take a ride in one of those.
I couldn’t agree more, Laura! And yes, they are hideous! Good adjective 😉
Oh my gosh, look at that Nutella. Holy cow. These donuts look so, so good! Love your grocery and parenting advice, haha. There is very little that a donut can’t fix. 🙂
Truer words have never been said, Beth! Thanks so much for the awesome comment 😉
Invest in a donut – I love your advice! That’s the best investment quote I’ve heard. I have to confess, I did ride in those once or twice, but only when my mom was not on a mission (and that rarely happened) As I go grocery shopping now, I wonder who thought those big bulky carts were a good idea!
These donuts, just wow! The Nutella makes them kid magnets, but the whole wheat and browned butter adds a more grown up feel to it. Love the sprinkles, and love your little boy’s smiles! So sweet!
Thanks Mary Frances! I’d do just about anything for that smile 😉
Those look so good!
Thanks Chloe!
Oh My Gooooodness these have to be the cutest looking donuts EVER! I loveeeeee those sprinkles and brown butter is my ABSOLUTE favorite, liquid GOLD!!!!!! And they’re baked and whole wheat! Happy days!!!!!
I hear ya, Samina! You can’t go wrong with brown butter, or Nutella! And the rainbow sprinkles are a must 😉
Dear Nutella: I love you.
Dear whole wheat baked doughnuts: you too.
Bananas: you know how I feel about you.
Allie: you’re a geeeeenius!
Lol! I feel ya, Kayle! And ditto. So glad we’re on the same page!
Allie,
oh my gawd, I just got back from the grocery store with Madeline and I was pushing one of those big a** car carts!!! AHHHHH!!!! haha. . I usually go shopping in peace sans kids but Madeline stayed home with me today and got totally excited when she saw that thing. That HUGE horrible shopping car cart thing. 🙂 I used to do the sweet treat thing too. . or gelato in the summer when we would go to Whole Foods .. love it! and LOVE these doughnuts! baked donuts are the best! I love my donut pan!
I know, aren’t baked donuts the best??? There’s just so much you can do with them, and they’re so easy! And yes, those car carts are THE worst. I try to go sans kids as much as possible, but when I can’t, a sweet treat definitely helps!
Welp I just went down a little “whoever designed this is an a**hole” rabbit hole….That site is hilarious! Ok, seriously though, whoever designed the doughnut is a saint. And whoever designed Nutella is also a saint. So she who puts them together in one pastry is….? Wonderful. The answer is wonderful. 🙂
PS: Your son is so handsome!
Thanks Nora! You are too kind. And that site, right???
HAHA yeah I could never do one of those carts! Bless your soul.
These donuts though…. uhm. Important.
I’m on this giant nutella kick lately and I’m leaving for Italy this week. That combination is going to be lethal.
I saw your post Graham! Ps- do you not allow comments on your blog or is something screwy with my computer? They were increeeeedible! Love your white chocolate Nutella idea. Have a great time in Italia!
I burst out laughing at the photo of the cart with that plastic car thing-y in the front. I CANNOT see you pushing your kids in that thing (it seems kinda dangerous, not to mention huge and unwieldy). I used to go to the grocery store with my sister when my nephew was a baby because it was difficult for her to go by herself. I don’t know how you moms do it! Bringing along home made donuts is a brilliant plan. Hell, I’D behave myself too if I had one of these beauties to nosh on. Your photos are gaaaaaaaawgeous, Allie. And these donuts. I’m swooning. Brown butter AND nutella?! Yes please!
Oh ya, you will NOT see me pushing one of those beasts. I just don’t have the upper body strength for it! They are the bane of every mom’s existence. So glad you liked the donuts, chica. I think I hit the trifecta of foodie buzzwords with this one, lol!
I’m dying over the cuteness of these photos! They look like they came straight from the bakery. 🙂
Thanks Tiffany! Gotta love that donut pan, right? And rainbow sprinkles make everything better 😉
These are so great Allie. A healthier donut? I am all over this. Great pics of your little guy too. Looks like a great personality!
Oh yeah, personality plus, lol! He keeps me on my toes 😉
I detested shopping with my kids because I would always forget things! I’d have to keep them so entertained, and calling me distracted was putting it mildly. We had one supermarket that if you went to the bakery the lady would give children a free cookie. Worked like a charm! Hey, the donut would be even better. 🙂 Homemade is always better, and these donuts look delicious, Allie! Love the Nutella with banana, and the whole wheat flour is a big bonus, too. Pinning! 🙂
Thanks so much for pinning Marcie! And I’m so glad you can relate. Shopping with kids is no Bueno! If it’s gotta happen, then we need some sweets to get through it 😉
These gorgeous donuts totally look like they came from a bakery! Anything with the words “nutella”, brown butter, and banana definitely grab my attention. What an amazing trio of flavors you’ve got going here! Those rainbow sprinkles just complete these beautiful donuts. Lastly, your little man is freaking ADORBS! 🙂 Pinned!
Thank you so much, Sarah! I love the combo of Nutella and bananas, and you know, brown butter just makes everything better, right? So glad you liked and thanks for the sweet compliment 😉
Those are so adorable! Love how they’re whole wheat. I might make these in muffin tins–don’t have a donut pan yet 🙂
Great idea! I’m sure that would work out beautifully. May have to cut down on the bake time a little? Or maybe not, because of the donut hole. Good luck!
