Step 1

Place the sugar and salt in the bowl of a food processor, and process on high until the mixture is milled to a powder.

Step 2

Pulse in the butter and vanilla. Then pulse in the flour until in begins to clump. 

Step 3

Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Step 4

Unwrap the dough, trim off any uneven edges, and cut into 3-inch long by 1-inch wide bars.

Step 5

Dock the cookies with a toothpick. Chill in the refrigerator for another 30 minutes.

Step 6

Bake the cookies for 20 to 25 minutes, or until just barely beginning to turn golden.
