Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with parchment. Place the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
Add the mashed sweet potato and butter, and cut in with a pastry blender.
Stir in the buttermilk until the dough gathers itself into a ball.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and pat it into a disk shape, about 1 1/2 inches thick.
Cut rounds with a 2-inch diameter cutter, and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 16 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown on the bottom and around the edges.
