  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Place the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl, and cream on medium-high speed until pale and fluffy (about 3 minutes).  
  3. Stir in the vanilla and water.  
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, scraping the bottom and sides of the bowl and beater with a silicone spatula after each addition.  
  5. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt and stir until just barely combined.  
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop 2-tablespoon sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving 2-inches between each to allow for spreading.  
  8. Bake the cookies for 16-20 minutes.  
  9. Cool completely on the baking sheets.
