Ingredients

  • 8 apples, medium (about 4 pounds)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (or to taste)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice (juice of half a lemon), or to taste

Instructions

  • Peel, quarter, and core the apples.
  • Place the apples, water, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a large pot and stir to combine.
  • Cook over medium-high heat until simmering.
  • Continue to simmer, covered, until the apples are soft (approx. 20 minutes).
  • Mash the applesauce to the desired texture.
