Ingredients

  • 1 cup (142 g) all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons (48 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¾ cup (126 g) chocolate chips, plus more for topping
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • ¾ cup (157 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk preferably whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a muffin tin with paper cups.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the butter, sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Stir the wet ingredients into the dry, taking care not to overmix.
  • Divide the batter evenly into the muffin tins. The batter will come close to the top. Sprinkle 3-5 additional chocolate chips on top of each muffin.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, until a toothpick comes clean from the center.
  • Remove the muffins from the pan and place on a cooling rack. Cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.
