Cheese Bread

Homemade cheese bread with sharp cheddar cheese and garlic powder. This easy quick bread bakes soft inside with a golden crust.

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9x5 loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving a little overhang.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, kosher salt and garlic powder.
  • Then add the shredded sharp cheddar and toss to coat all the cheese strands with the flour mixture.
  • In a spouted measuring cup, whisk together the milk, egg and melted butter.
  • Now pour the wet ingredients over the flour mixture and mix until just combined. Try not to over mix or the cheese bread will be tough.
  • Spoon the dough into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes; the top and edges will be set and a toothpick inserted in the center will come out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes, then remove the bread to a wire cooling rack.
  • Cheese bread can be sliced after 15 minutes of cooling and can be served warm or at room temperature.

Notes

If you’d like to add fresh or dried herbs, feel free to add them to the flour mixture.
Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to one week.  Please note that the bread will be more prone to drying out in the refrigerator.
Cheese bread can also be frozen for up to 3 months.  Either wrap the whole loaf or individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and then store in an airtight container or zip-top bag.  Allow to defrost at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
