ingredients for cheese bread
  • All-purpose flour: Provides the structure for the bread.
  • Sugar: Just a hint of sugar to balance the flavors of this quick bread.
  • Baking powder: Provides the leavening and keeps the cheese bread from being flat.
  • Salt: Kosher salt balances the flavors.
  • Cheddar cheese: I recommend using a block of sharp cheddar cheese for the best flavor.
  • Egg: One large egg helps to bind everything together.
  • Melted butter: I prefer unsalted butter; it adds flavor to the bread.
  • Milk: Milk brings moisture to this quick bread. Whole milk, 2%, or 1% can be used.

Helpful Tips and Tricks

  • Use a block of sharp cheddar and grate it yourself. Packaged cheese tends to have less flavor and often doesn’t melt as well.
  • Line your loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • If you have metal binder clips, they are helpful for holding the parchment paper in place.
  • To avoid soggy leftovers, make sure the bread is completely cool before covering and storing.
