Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Irresistible Flavor: This easy dessert is made with crushed Oreos mixed with cream cheese. So indulgent! The combination of crunchy chocolate cookies and the smooth cream cheese filling is highly addictive.
Easy to Make: Oreo truffles require only a few ingredients and are incredibly easy to make. The process involves crushing the cookies, mixing them with cream cheese, rolling them into balls, and coating them in chocolate. That’s all there is to it!
Versatility: Oreo truffles can be customized in various ways to suit different tastes. You can use different flavors of Oreo cookies, such as mint, golden, or peanut butter, to create unique variations. And you can experiment with different coatings, such as white chocolate, dark chocolate, or sprinkles, to add visual appeal and extra flavor.
Bite-Sized Delights: This no-bake dessert is typically made into small, bite-sized balls, making them perfect for serving at parties, gatherings, or as a sweet snack. Their petite size also makes them easy to portion and enjoy without feeling guilty.
Ingredients and Notes
Regular Oreos: To me, regular Oreo cookies have the perfect amount of cream. I don’t usually go for the double-stuffed kind, but you do you!
Room Temperature Cream Cheese: Use regular cream cheese that comes in a brick.
White Melting Chocolate: I prefer white candy melts over white chocolate chips. They melt so nice and smooth!
How to Make Oreo Balls
Step 1: Start with a package of Oreos.
Dump them in the food processor and pulse until they become sandy, fine crumbs.
(The cookies and the filling can all go in. There is no need to remove the creme filling!)
Step 2: Transfer the cookie crumbs to a big mixing bowl and toss in a brick of cream cheese.
I like using my stand mixer for this, but you could also use a hand mixer or wooden spoon.
Step 3: Mix the cookie crumbs with the cream cheese until you have what looks like a stiff dough.
It should only take about a minute.
Step 4: Then roll the mixture into little balls.
I like to use a cookie scoop because it helps me to get a uniform size. If you use a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop to portion out the truffles, you should get about 35 candies total.
Step 5: The final ingredient is the candy coating. You are going to coat these Oreo balls with a thin layer of white chocolate!
Place candy melts (or roughly chopped bars) into a medium microwave-safe bowl and warm in the microwave. It’s best to go about 30 seconds at a time. Stir frequently, and after about 2 minutes it should be beautifully smooth and liquid.
Step 6: Once your chocolate is melty and gorgeous, drop in the Oreo balls, one by one, and roll them around with a fork until they’re completely coated.
Fish the coated Oreo ball out with your fork, tapping it on the side of the bowl to allow the excess chocolate to smooth over and drip away.
Place the Oreo cream cheese balls on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 7: To garnish the candies, sprinkle a pinch of Oreo crumbs on the still-wet chocolate coating. It looks so pretty and gives a hint of the chocolatey goodness inside!
Allow the candies time to harden before serving.
Pro Tip: If your melted chocolate seems too thick, stir in a teaspoon or so of vegetable oil. It works like magic!
Expert Tips
- Use full-fat cream cheese: Opt for full-fat cream cheese rather than low-fat or reduced-fat varieties. The higher fat content will result in a richer and creamier truffle filling, and the truffles will hold their shape better.
- Crush the Oreo cookies well: Make sure the Oreo cookies are finely crushed so you get a smooth filling mixture. You can use a food processor or place the cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
- Reserve some crumbs for garnish: Set aside a few of the crushed Oreo cookies before mixing them with the cream cheese. These reserved cookie crumbs will get sprinkled on the truffles later, for an extra-pretty presentation.
- Chill the filling: Once you’ve mixed the crushed cookies and cream cheese, refrigerate the mixture for about 15-30 minutes before rolling it into balls. Chilling firms up the mixture, making it easier to handle and shape.
- Use a cookie scoop or melon baller: To ensure uniformity in size, use a cookie scoop or melon baller to portion out the truffle mixture. This will help make sure all your truffles are consistent.
Variations
Decorate: Once the truffles are coated, you can customize them by sprinkling reserved cookie crumbs, drizzling melted chocolate, hitting them with crushed candy canes, or adding decorative sprinkles. This idea is great for Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentine’s Day, or Fourth of July. You can find colors to celebrate the holiday and make them themed for the occasion!
Easy to Customize: Shape them into different designs to match the occasion with cookie cutters! Or drizzle them with a contrasting kind of melted chocolate. Sort of like I did with these chocolate-covered strawberries!
How to Serve
On a platter: Arrange the Oreo truffles on a platter or serving tray. You can place them in neat rows or create a decorative pattern. This presentation works well for casual gatherings or when serving more truffles.
In individual cups or liners: Place each Oreo truffle in a cupcake liner or small dessert cup. This individual serving style is perfect for parties or events where guests can easily grab their portion without needing utensils.
Gift boxes or bags: Package Oreo truffles in cute gift boxes or bags to create a lovely homemade gift. They make wonderful presents for holidays, birthdays, or as party favors. Tie a ribbon or attach a gift tag for an extra special touch.
Recipe FAQS
If you don’t have a food processor, that’s ok! Just place the Oreos in a big plastic bag, and bash them with a spoon until they’re all crumbly.
For what you see here, I used white chocolate candy melts. But you could also use milk chocolate or dark chocolate. Whatever your heart desires!
However, I would caution you against using chocolate chips. Most brands of chocolate chips contain stabilizers that prevent the chips from losing their shape during baking. This can make it hard for them to melt smoothly.
Candy melts or chopped-up baking bars are the way to go for melting! They melt down to a beautiful, smooth liquid.
If you don’t have (or don’t want to use) a microwave, I have double boiler instructions below, so scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
How to Store
These candies are fine at room temperature for a day or so. Place them in an airtight container with a layer of parchment paper or wax paper between each layer to keep them from sticking together.
But if you plan on making them ahead or have a lot of leftovers, it’s best to store them in the fridge since they contain dairy. They should keep in the fridge for at least a week or two- if they last that long!
Or you can freeze them! Just place them in an airtight container, and they should last in the freezer for weeks or even months!

Oreo Balls
Ingredients
- 14.3 ounces (405.4 g) Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies, (1 package)
- 8 ounces (226.8 g) softened cream cheese , (1 brick)
- 12.5 ounces (354.37 g) white melting chocolate, (1 package)
Instructions
- Place the cookies in the bowl of a food processor* and pulse to fine crumbs.
- Transfer all but about 1 tablespoon of the crumbs to a large mixing bowl, and add the cream cheese.
- Mix until blended.
- Scoop 1-inch diameter balls, and roll between the palms to shape into smooth spheres.
- Chill in the refrigerator.
- Place the white chocolate in a bowl and microwave** in 30 second intervals, stirring, until smooth and melted.
- Coat the Oreo balls in the melted white chocolate, and sprinkle with reserved cookie crumbs to garnish.
Notes
**Can also be melted over a double boiler. Heat about an inch of water in a small pot, place chocolate in a glass or metal bowl, and rest it on top. (The water should just barely be simmering, and the bottom of the bowl should not be touching the water.) Stir until smooth and melted. A few more easy candy recipes:
I made this last night and my kids loved the Oreo balls. Can these be frozen after they are dipped in the chocolate? Because I want to preserve them for my kids. Thanks in advance.
I think they probably could, but you might end up with a little bloom on the coating. Good luck & I’m so happy your kids enjoyed!
Have made this recipe before and love them!! Could you roll out the dough and use a cookie cutter to shape them? Was hoping to have more of a flat / round size (like Oreo shape!) as opposed to balls
That’s such a fun idea! I definitely think that would work!
Quick Q: Should these be stored in fridge until ready to eat? Thank you so much for this recipe. Trying it out for my husbands birthday.
It’s not a bad idea but I’m not sure it’s completely necessary unless you’re planning to make them several days before.
I saw this recipe in a video and it was the exact same so now i’m wondering if you’re the same person
Not sure?? Was it the same video you see embedded in the recipe card here? If so then I guess I am. I created the video myself, as I do with all the videos on this site.
Hello Allie. Wow, what a simple recipe. This is perfect for a quick and easy treat. Thanks so much for all your tips on how to dip these truffles, super helpful.
Thanks for this recipe. I made it today. Â Everything was going well until I dipped the balls in the chocolate. The folk and the seekers as shown on the video left dents and holes on the balls. The coating was not going well either.
I added oil to the chocolate but it made no differenceÂ
Love to try again so any advice would be a helpÂ
Thanks once again to take the trouble of posting the recipeÂ
I made this recipe at Christmas time for my family, just to contribute and bring a little treat. Who would’ve known the simplest recipe would be adored so greatly. My mom and grandfather couldn’t get enough of them and they went so quickly. I’ve been looking for every excuse to make them again so I can feel better not just making them for myself. DeliciousÂ
This is so nice to hear Kalli! Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback. I’m so happy you, your mom, and your grandfather like the recipe so much.
My granddaughter asked me to make this recipe, I was amazed at how delicious and easy this recipe was!
So glad to hear you and your granddaughter enjoyed!
I made these and the first 1/2 of the balls were really pretty and white, then as I went along, the which chocolate became dirty looking because of the bits of oreo cookies coming off into the white chocolate. What a I doing wrong
The Oreo balls need to be chilled in the fridge until firm before they are coated. If they are at all soft or wet this can happen. So sorry, hope you have better luck next time.
They look amazingly sinful. Can these be premade without the chocolate coating if you don’t have time to complete the whole process? Thanks!
Hey Karen! I think that would probably work just fine. Just keep them covered so they don’t dry out. Hope you enjoy!
Karen, you can freeze them and coat with chocolate later. Just let them get close to refrigerator temp before you dip them.
BEST PARTY FAVOR SNACK. I had everyone wanting more and it was a HUGE success at my office building for my friend’s birthday
So happy to hear that Callie!
These are so yummy and so simple! They’re always a hit around the holidays!
Oreo Balls dipped in white chocolate are my absolute favorite! Thanks for your terrific instructions!
