Ever since my kids were born, Valentine’s Day has taken on a whole new meaning. Where it used to be an excuse for a romantic night out for my husband and me, it’s now an opportunity to show our appreciation to so many people who touch our lives every day.
I love to mark the holiday with heartfelt messages, thoughtful gifts, and special treats for my kids, their friends, and their teachers at school. There are so many people who deserve a little something sweet on Valentine’s Day! It lets them know how much we care.
This recipe transforms classic blossom cookies with a chocolate twist, just right for February. Each cookie is rolled in colorful Valentine’s sprinkles and topped with a creamy Dove® chocolate heart in the center. They’re both cute and delicious.

Ingredients You’ll Need
The recipe card at the bottom of the post contains the full list with all of the amounts. Refer to that when you’re cooking.

- Unsalted butter: Softened to room temperature so it creams with the sugars.
- Granulated sugar: For sweetness and structure.
- Light brown sugar: Adds moisture and a hint of caramel flavor.
- Egg: Binds the dough and adds richness.
- Milk: Milk, just a little to help smooth out the dough.
- Vanilla extract: Brings out the chocolate flavor.
- All-purpose flour: The backbone of our cookie dough.
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: For rich chocolate flavor. You can use either natural or Dutch-process.
- Baking soda: Helps the cookies puff up nicely.
- Kosher salt: Balances the sweetness and brings out the flavors.
- Sprinkles: Use any Valentine-themed mix you like! Think pinks, pearls, dragees, and hearts.
- Dove® Milk Chocolate Promises: One per cookie, pressed in while the cookie is still warm for a melty center.

Step 1: Cream the butter and sugars
In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar on medium-high speed for 3 to 5 minutes, until pale and fluffy.
Step 2: Add the wet ingredients
Add the egg and mix, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed. Next, add the milk and vanilla and blend until smooth.
Step 3: Combine the dry ingredients
Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until the dough is fully blended.
Step 4: Shape and decorate
Scoop about 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough for each cookie and roll into balls. Press the sides and bottom into the sprinkle mix, then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 5: Bake and finish
Bake at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are set, but the centers are still soft. While the cookies are warm, press a Dove® chocolate into each one. Let them cool completely.
Helpful Tips and Tricks
- Don’t overbake the cookies. They should look a little soft in the center when done, which is just right.
- If the chocolate hearts melt too much, chill the cookies briefly after pressing them in.
- To make the cookies extra sparkly, roll the whole ball of dough in sprinkles before baking.
- These cookies are great for gifts. Pack them in treat boxes and include a sweet note.

These little hearts were so cute, but the cookie was pretty tasteless except for the dove heart. Was very disappointed after all the work.
Sorry to hear that Christina! What brand of cocoa did you use, if I may ask?
Allie this looks amazing!!! You should check out my latest post on my blog! Thanks, Kirsten
