I love how cold and slushy it comes out. It’s almost like a smoothie! And the flavor is out of this world. So fresh and real tasting!

This recipe is based on my favorite classic margarita recipe. So if you’re looking for a simple and authentic margarita, be sure to check it out here: How to Make a Margarita.

MANGO MARGARITA INGREDIENTS

To make this fabulous cocktail, you’ll only need 4 ingredients:

  1. Freshly squeezed lime juice
  2. Orange liqueur
  3. Tequila
  4. Frozen mango chunks

It’s that simple! There’s more info below on what kind of tequila to use, so read on!

HOW TO MAKE A MANGO MARGARITA

Whenever I make margaritas, I ALWAYS start with freshly squeezed lime juice. It makes such a difference! You won’t believe how fresh and flavorful your margaritas will be when you take the time to squeeze the juice yourself.

Juicing a lime into a liquid measuring cup with a citrus reamer.

Juice the limes in a liquid measuring cup, until you have 3 ounces of juice.

Then add in 3 ounces of orange liqueur. Orange liqueur can go by the name “triple sec,” “Cointreau,” or “Grand Marnier.” Any brand is fine!

Pouring tequila into liquid measuring cup with freshly squeezed lime juice.

Top it off with another 6 ounces of tequila.

Frozen mango chunks in a copper measuring cup.

Next, you’ll need frozen mango chunks. I buy a big bag in the frozen foods section of my regular grocery store. I can usually find it right near the ice cream.

Frozen mango chunks are what will bring your mango margaritas all their mango flavor, and they also serve to make them nice and thick and slushy.

Blend everything up until it’s nice and smooth!

VARIATIONS

There are lots of ways you can tweak this recipe to make it your own.

VIRGIN MANGO MARGARITA

For a mango margarita without alcohol, substitute orange juice for the orange liqueur, and water for the tequila.

SPICY MANGO MARGARITA

For a hot and spicy version, drop a jalapeno pepper into the blender. Or you can just add a pinch of cayenne.

STRAWBERRY MANGO MARGARITA

Swap out some of the mango for frozen strawberries, and you’ll have a strawberry mango margarita. Yum!

MANGO MARGARITA ON THE ROCKS

Use fresh (or thawed) mango instead of frozen, if you prefer your margarita on the rocks. Blend it up as usual, but pour it over ice cubes.

WHAT KIND OF TEQUILA TO USE

You can use any kind of tequila you have on hand, but I like blanco or silver tequila the best. Sometimes these might be called “platinum” or “white.” The flavor is clean and smooth, and it really lets the fresh fruit flavors shine.

HOW TO SALT THE RIM

If you like a salty rim, here’s how to do it:

Wetting the rim of a margarita glass with lime juice.

Start by wetting the rim of the glass with a little fresh lime juice.

Dipping the rim of a margarita glass into a dish of salt.

Then gently press it into a dish of coarse salt. I always keep kosher salt on hand, so that is what I used here.

HOW TO MAKE MANGO MARGARITAS FOR A CROWD

This recipe scales up really easily. Just multiply everything by 5 and you’ll have enough for 10 drinks.

CAN MANGO MARGARITA MIX BE MADE AHEAD?

You can definitely make this ahead! But if you want it to be slushy, you’ll want to blend in the frozen mango chunks just before serving.
