Salted Honey Nut Tart

Are you a fan of pecan pie? I feel like if there’s ever a time to enjoy it, it’s around the holidays. My husband is a HUGE fan. It’s probably his favorite dessert of all time.
I’m coming around. I didn’t used to like it all that much. But I found that if it has chocolate in it, I can enjoy. Chocolate makes everything better, haha!
But I already have a chocolate pecan pie recipe on this site. So for this year, I thought I’d put a different kind of spin on that old favorite: Salted Honey Nut Tart!
That’s right, salted honey. Ever since I made that honey caramel for the Apple Honey Cake, I just can’t stop craving this flavor combination!
We’re also mixing up the nuts. You can use any combination of nuts you like! Or keep it simple and do all one kind. Cashews are my favorite (I know cashews are technically not a nut but you get what I mean), and I think a salted honey cashew tart would be just divine….
But for the purposes of today’s recipe, I went with everything but the kitchen sink. There are walnuts, pistachios, almonds, macadamias, hazelnuts… Basically I just cleared out the nut stash in my freezer!
And it was a huge hit! The hubs loved the buttery, shortbread-like crust, the gooey honey nut filling, and that little sprinkling of sea salt on top, to balance the sweetness.

Honey Nut Tart
- 1 1/2 cups (187.5 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup (40 g) powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon (0.25 teaspoon) kosher salt
- 1/2 cup (113.5 g) unsalted butter,, cold
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon (0.5 teaspoon) vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 2/3 cup (226 g) honey
- 1/2 cup (110 g) brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons (59.15 g) unsalted butter,, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups (216 g) mixed nuts, (such as cashews, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, macadamias, hazelnuts, etc.)
- 1/2 teaspoon (0.5 teaspoon) fleur de sel, for garnish
