Peanut Butter Banana Malt Dusty Road Sundaes
This creamy homemade ice cream recipe is infused with banana and brown sugar, rippled with peanut butter, and loaded with crunchy chunks of chocolate covered malted milk balls. Take it totally over the top with a drizzle of chocolate sauce and a sprinkling of malt powder, for a dusty road sundae like none other!
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!!!
Sorry. I just get really excited for ice cream, especially when it’s an Ice Cream partaaay with 7 of the best bloggers around 😉
My friend Dianna from The Kitchen Prep got a bunch of us together for an ice cream social! Holla! She kicked off the celebration with this unbelievable Buttered Blueberry Waffle Ice Cream with Maple Caramel Swirl. The second I saw that, I knew I had better bring my A-game.
I went with a brown sugar and banana infused, peanut butter rippled homemade ice cream that’s sprinkled throughout with crunchy chocolate covered malted milk balls.
Then I took it totally over the top with chocolate syrup and malted milk powder.
Not sure if the chocolate sauce and malt powder is a regional thing or what. Have you ever heard of a dusty road sundae? Usually it’s just made with vanilla ice cream. Definitely a favorite of mine, but brown sugar banana peanut butter chocolate-covered malted milk ball is on a whole different level.

I also just want to quickly mention, the ice cream maker I have been using lately is this kind. If you already have a KitchenAid mixer, I highly recommend this attachment! It works great and takes up a lot less space in your kitchen than a standalone machine. They’re not paying me to say this- I just really think it’s a great solution!

Peanut Butter Banana Malt Dusty Road Sundaes
Ingredients
- 8 egg yolks, (large)
- 3/4 cup (165 g) light brown sugar, (loosely packed)
- 1 ripe banana,, mashed
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups (354.88 ml) milk, (I used 1%)
- 2 1/2 cups (591.47 ml) heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (258 g) peanut butter
- 1/4 cup (59.15 ml) honey
- 1 1/2 cups (150 g) malted milk balls,, chopped
- chocolate sauce
- malted milk powder
Instructions
- Freeze the canister of an ice cream maker overnight.
- Place the egg yolks, brown sugar, banana, and salt in a large bowl and whisk to combine.
- Heat the milk in a medium pot until small bubbles form around the edges. Pour the hot milk into the egg mixture in a slow and steady stream, while whisking. Transfer the mixture back to the pot.
- Add the cream and heat over medium-low heat, whisking, until the mixture thickens slightly and is very hot to the touch. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Refrigerate the mixture overnight.
- Mix the peanut butter and honey together in a small bowl.
- Pour the chilled custard into the ice cream maker (with the machine running). Allow it to churn for 20-30 minutes, or until it has the consistency of soft serve.
- Layer the ice cream in a loaf pan, drizzling it with the peanut butter mixture, and sprinkling with chopped malted milk balls (work quickly!). Freeze until hard.
- Top scoops of ice cream with chocolate sauce and dust with malted milk powder.
