Chubby Hubby Soft Pretzels and Dip
Have you ever had chubby hubby ice cream? These peanut butter stuffed soft pretzels capture the flavors perfectly, when paired with a sweet and creamy vanilla malt dip with chocolate chips. This dessert was just made for Superbowl snacking!
This is a sponsored post, written by me, in partnership with Aldi Stores. All opinions expressed herein are straight from my heart.
The other day my friend was telling me that Superbowl Sunday is the second biggest foodie holiday there is, after Thanksgiving. Can you believe that??? I was kind of surprised, but I guess it makes sense. I mean, after nearly a month of punishing ourselves for all our holiday food transgressions with juice cleanses and kale salads and green smoothies, we’re suddenly given this “free pass,” to gorge on all the buffalo wings, chili cheese fries, and chips and dip there is, all in the name of a football game.
Not that I’m complaining, by any means! I may not be much of a football lover, but any excuse to get together with friends and eat junk food is ok by me! Especially when you can totally do it in a tee shirt and sweatpants.
I just want to make sure you save some room for dessert 😉
The Mr. and I love to entertain our friends and family, it’s really one of our favorite things to do. We love planning the menu together, and writing it up on our chalkboard wall. And then we go down the list and assign who’s going to make what, and really we work pretty well in the kitchen together. It’s a lot of fun! But the one part that we don’t always like is how expensive it can be!
The last time I hosted Thanksgiving dinner was three years ago, and I want to say I spent over $300 on everything. It kinda broke the bank yo. I mean, I love doing it, but now that I know there’s a better way…
I bought our Christmas Eve food at Aldi and I couldn’t believe the savings. We had spiral sliced ham, homemade buttermilk biscuits, broccoli cheddar soup, chips and dips for snacking, a hot cocoa bar and a huuuuge variety of homemade cookies for dessert. I got almost everything at Aldi and it rang in at less than $85. So basically Aldi has become my go-to for entertaining.
And for this year’s Superbowl bash, I’ll be passing around these peanut butter stuffed soft pretzels while they’re hot out of the oven.
Have you ever made homemade soft pretzels before? Dude, they are really easy. They’re made with just a handful of pantry staples!
Stuffing them with peanut butter chips sounds like black magic but I promise it’s totally doable. I even made a little video to prove it!
You see that? It’s a lot like making a dumpling. The best advice I can give you here is just to make sure the chips are sealed in there really well. If they poke out at all then the chips will melt out as the pretzels are boiling and baking, and that is just so sad. If your chips are on the large side, you may want to give them a rough chop because the smaller ones seem to behave themselves a little better.
You can make the pretzels ahead and just keep them warm in the oven. I highly recommend serving them warm, so the peanut butter filling is melty. YUM! And the sweet and creamy dip just completes the whole chubby hubby experience, bringing the vanilla malt, and chocolate flavor that we all know and love.
Are you planning a Superbowl bash this year? What are your favorite football foods? Do you do a special Superbowl dessert too?
Make sure you head over to Aldi to buy all the stuff- it makes entertaining so much more doable! You can read all about my time at the Aldi test kitchen here (they made a believer out of me!), and like their Facebook page here.
Have a great weekend!

Chubby Hubby Soft Pretzels and Dip
Ingredients
For the Peanut Butter Stuffed Soft Pretzels
- 1/4 cup (55 g) light brown sugar, , loosely packed
- 1 cup (236.59 ml) warm water
- 1/4 ounce (7.09 g) active dry yeast, (1 packet
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups (255 g) peanut butter baking chips
- 2 quarts (1.89 l) water,, for boiling
- 1/4 cup (30 g) baking soda
- egg wash, (1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water)
- kosher salt to taste
For the Vanilla Malted Cream Cheese Banana Chocolate Dip
- 4 ounces (113.4 g) cream cheese, (1/2 brick), softened
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons malted milk powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup (59.15 ml) heavy whipping cream, cold
- 1/2 cup (90 g) mini chocolate chips
Instructions
To Make the Peanut Butter Stuffed Soft Pretzels:
- Place the brown sugar in a large mixing bowl and pour the warm water over. Stir to combine, and sprinkle the yeast over the surface. Allow to proof for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
- Stir in the oil, and add the flour, a cup at a time. When the dough starts to form a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl, transfer it to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes. (You may not need all of the flour.) If the dough seems very sticky, knead in up to 1/3 cup additional flour, as needed.
- Lightly mist the mixing bowl with non-stick spray and place the dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap, and allow to rise in a warm place, about one hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide it into 12 equal balls, and roll each into a rope about 8 inches long. Flatten slightly, and place about 2 tablespoons of peanut butter chips down the center. Bring up the long sides of the dough around the peanut butter chips, carefully pinching to seal them inside. Roll the filled rope again, to a length of about 12-14 inches, and twist into a pretzel shape.
- Place the stuffed pretzels on a lightly greased baking sheet, and allow to proof, uncovered, for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Bring about 2 quarts of water to a simmer in a wide, shallow pot. Add the baking soda. The mixture will bubble up for a few seconds. Boil the pretzels, a few at a time, for about a minute on each side. Drain on clean kitchen towels and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with salt. Bake for 16-20 minutes, or until deep golden brown. Serve warm with Vanilla Malted Cream Cheese Banana Chocolate Dip.
To Make the Vanilla Malted Cream Cheese Chocolate Dip:
- Place the cream cheese, malt powder, sugar, and vanilla in a small mixing bowl and whip on medium high speed until creamy.
- Slowly drizzle in the cold cream, while whipping, until the mixture is fluffy and holds stiff peaks.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and serve with warm soft pretzels.
I don’t think I would leave the snack table if something like this was sitting there. What a delightful idea!
This is such an insanely creative recipe! I absolutely love how you adapted the chubby hubby flavors into a pretzel and dip! Just seeing this recipe makes me a very happy girl!
I had a giggle when I saw the name because of my hang up about my pudgy Baby Hands! I saw the photo and thought “THOSE hands aren’t chubby!!” And I haven’t had Chubby Hubby ice cream before, but based on the recipe I KNOW I will love the flavour!! 🙂 Seriously have no idea how you came up with this. You just blow me away with your baking talent. You need to get your own cooking show. 🙂
Sooo, I love pretzels and ice cream and you basically just married the two. LOVE THIS! 🙂
Hooray! So glad you liked Tiffany! Thanks for stopping by hon!
Oh my goodness Allie, loved the video and these pretzels! The pretzels look amazing and I love that you stuffed them with peanut butter! They are seriously just like Chubby Hubby ice cream with that dip too 🙂 Such a great idea and would be such a hit at any game day bash!
Thanks Kelly! I’m so happy you enjoyed sweetie- thank you so much for the great feedback. You always put a smile on my face with your sweet comments 🙂
Alli, these looks amazing! I love Chubby Hubby. I seriously think I could do a whole series of deserts based on Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavors because so many of them are favorites! Your videos are awesome – super impressed. Can’t wait to see your next one 🙂
Thank you so much Aida- and I think you have a great idea there! Now I really want to see a Ben & Jerry’s series on The Crafting Foodie! 😀 😀 😀
Gasp! Allie, what are you trying to do to us? These look amazing. The ultimate Super Bowl sweet!
Yay! So happy you like it Tori!
Um what?! These pretzels are the best pretzels EVER because they are stuffed with peanut butter! Now I’ve had the crunchy peanut butter filled pretzels, and while they are good, they are not a big soft chewy pretzel. I need to make some of these stat!
That is exactly my same logic Julie- the crunchy ones are good, but soft and warm wins every time! So glad you like the idea 😀
Anything pretzel and I’m in. These look so delish! Never heard of chubby hubby ice cream before but now I’m surely intrigued!
Pinned.
Dude- I could eat an entire pint of Chubby Hubby in one sitting. It’s banana malt ice cream with fudge swirls and chocolate covered peanut butter filled pretzels. Outrageous! Thanks for the pin, Melanie!
Your video is awesome! And yes, the pretzels look easy enough to make! I was hooked up with peanut butter melt fillings lately, so this is the perfect recipe for me 🙂 Think these are really great even without the dipping sauce, but I’d like to make them to impress my guests!
Thanks Maggie! They’re pretty great on their own, but the dip just brings them to another level 😀 😀 😀
I kind of have a love/hate relationship with Aldi right now. Love the prices, but some of the savoury items I’ve bought just aren’t up to regular supermarket quality. AND I can’t seem to get the baking ingredients in the UK Aldi’s. If they sold a better range of baking staples here, I’d totally live there just for that though. Aldi UK, are you listening!? 😉
Never heard of Chubby Hubby here though but the name alone is cracking me up. That dip looks phenomenal and thise pretzels look absolutely perfect, so fluffy looking on the inside.
Going to have to try to try the Chubby Hubby flavour, Allie-style! 🙂
Thanks Lisa! Chubby Hubby is one of my favorite ice cream flavors; it’s by Ben & Jerry’s. Not sure if you have that in the UK or not??? As for the European Aldi’s I really don’t know much about them, but the ones here in the States are great! It’s not a full-stop shop where you can get every single thing on your list, but I can get all the baking staples no problem, and they cost about a third of the regular price. And the quality is right in line with most of the name brands I would normally buy.
What a fabulous idea. I’m not sure how I could restrain myself with these, everything looks amazing.
Thanks so much Janette!
I can’t pry my eyes from the screen. This recipe is pretty epic. I’m totally saving room for dessert. Pinned.
Yay! So glad you like it! Thank you so much for sharing earlier this week and for the awesome feedback! xoxo
First off, love the Chubby Hubby name. So catchy! Second, love the video (again) – definitely keep doing those. Third, I’ll be over your place soon with sweats and a t-shirt so we can snack together on all kinds of junk, mmm-ok? LOL 😀
Haha I love it! Thanks Connie! Chubby Hubby is definitely one of my favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavors… 🙂
Allie! I for sure love your video! It makes me easy to follow and look at how fluffy it is. Yummm!

Ooh, I need a pretzel recipe for a baking group I’m part off, I may give these a go Allie, they look so doable and you’ve written the method out nice and clearly! Our team isn’t in the Superbowl this year, have fun watching.
Thanks Laura! I doubt I’ll watch, to be honest. I’ll be too busy eating lol! I hope you enjoy the recipe. I found it on Food & Wine and I thought it was pretty straightforward and foolproof. Good luck!
Allie, you are BRILLIANT! As if I didn’t have enough reasons to go carb-crazy during football season 🙂 Also, my love for soft pretzels is deep and abiding but I’ve never had a sweet version. That will change ASAP!
Oh yeah, you’ve gotta try Amy! The sweet salty thing is totally my jam. Thanks hon!
