Nutella Crepe Cake | Baking a Moment

Hi friends! How is your week going? I’m doing pretty well over here. We made it through the 4-day weekend without Mr. Allie. He travelled up to Montreal with his brothers for my youngest brother-in-law’s bachelor party, so it was just me and the little ones for a few days. It wasn’t too terrible being on my own; now that the kids are a bit older it’s a lot easier than it once was. The hardest thing is that my older one CANNOT WAIT for Dad to get home every night so they can throw the ball around in the back yard. It’s just not the same with Mom :(

The other thing that I really miss when he’s not around is his cooking. Mr. Allie is a great cook, and it’s my salvation a lot of nights, after having been in the kitchen all day I’m really kinda burnt out and the idea of making dinner can be overwhelming. But he loves it! It’s his way of decompressing after work, and it’s a really nice break for me.

However, he’s not always the *greatest* at the cleaning up part. Which is really fine because I can actually get into it. He minds the boys for a half hour or so, and I just get into the zone with the dishes. I like to load the dishwasher a certain way, and I’m really meticulous about scrubbing the pots and pans, and when that’s all done, I wipe down the WHOLE kitchen. I get this weird sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when every surface is clear and gleaming, after a long day of mucking it all up. And you want to know the weirdest part? Seeing my kitchen looking like that makes me want to bake even more.

Nutella Crepe Cake | Baking a Moment

I’m sure if you know me, like, at ALL, then you could have guessed that my favorite hobby is baking. I mean, I do write a baking blog, after all! It really is my most favorite way to spend my free time. I love getting in that beautiful, clean kitchen and just creating. It makes me so happy.

This Nutella Crepe Cake is the result of just such an occasion. The kids were in the backyard with Dad, and I finished up all the cleaning and just felt inspired to start tinkering around. I pulled out an old cookbook and started practicing my crepe-making skills. Making crepes is not hard, after the first 2 or 3 you get the hang of it and it becomes almost meditative.

Nutella Crepe Cake | Baking a Moment

Before long, I had a huge stack, and I decided to fill in between each one with a smear of Nutella. Omg, so good! Such a treat. We all loved the way the sweet Nutella was balanced by the eggy crepes, and the tart, juicy raspberries were such a pretty garnish!

Nutella Crepe Cake

Lacy Crepes are layered with Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut spread, and stacked for a jaw dropping presentation. Garnish this No-Bake Cake with tart, juicy Raspberries and a flurry of powdered sugar.

  • 4 large eggs
  • 3 cups milk (I used 1%)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil (I used vegetable oil)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups Nutella
  • ½ cup fresh raspberries, for garnish
  • about 1 teaspoon powdered sugar, for garnish.

  1. Heat a 6-inch diameter skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Place the eggs, milk, flour, oil, and salt in a blender, and mix on low speed until fully combined.
  3. Lightly mist the skillet with non-stick spray and pour about 2 tablespoons of the crepe batter in, swirling to coat the bottom of the pan. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden on the bottom. Invert over a paper towel and repeat.
  4. When the crepes are completely cool, spread with a thin layer of Nutella and stack.
  5. Garnish with raspberries and powdered sugar. Serve immediately.

Crepes can be made ahead, but reserve final assembly for just prior to serving.

Ok, I’ll confess, I’m also of the prefer-to-make-a-mess-than-clean-it-up variety. I would happily clean a skillet to make crepes for this though! :)

How ’bout it? All I had to clean at the end of making this cake was a bitty 6-inch skillet, a blender, and a butter knife! Easy peasy! So glad you liked, Jessica, thanks so much for reading and for the sweet comment 😉

Mr. Allie sounds like the sweetest Dad! And you are so lucky that he likes to cook dinner! I’d gladly do the dishes if someone made me dinner :) I totally understand your love of having a clean kitchen – it is so satisfying! This cake looks so delicious! Your crepes are perfect, and all that nutella makes me smile!!!!

Allie this cake is just stunning! I need to practice my crepe making skills coz they never come out looking this great! And oh…I SO get the cleaning accomplishment. It’s a great feeling!!

    • says

Such a great feeling! I’m kind of addicted to it. It totally stresses me out when there are toys or plates or smudges on my counters. The rest of the house can fall apart, but leave my kitchen alone, lol!

  4. says

This cake is gorgeous, Allie! The crepes and Nutella layers are just perfect :) Aaw and Mr. Allie sounds like such an amazing dad and husband! Love that he enjoys cooking so that it gives you a nice break. Hehe and yup, nothing beats that wonderful feeling of a clean kitchen :)

We are kitchen-cleaning twins, Allie! My hubs does most of the cooking (God bless him) too but he has the ability to use every pot ‘n dish we own as well as mess up every inch of counter space. I’m extremely particular about cleaning so I also load the dishwasher (after scrubbing each dish because the dishwasher never gets rid of encrusted food) and wipe down every surface. I just can’t relax until my kitchen is spotless. Now I can’t stop dreaming about this amazing, elegant nutella crepe cake! It’s beautiful. Nice job with the crepes – each one looks perfect!

I always knew we were kindred spirits! And it sounds like maybe our husbands are too, lol! Mine will load the dishwasher (sometimes) but in his mind there’s nothing left to do after that point. It’s like messy tables, counters, and sinks don’t even exist to him. I wish I could ignore it as well as he does!

    • says

Oh I hope you have as much fun with it as I did, Shelly! This was my first time making one too. I loved that I didn’t have to turn on the oven- no bake cakes in the summer are awesome! Thanks for reading and for the sweet comment; enjoy!

  6. says

Whoa this is gorgeous! I’ve always loved the way crepe cakes look but I’ve never made one myself!

haha and I’m with you – I have a veryyyy particular way that I like to load the dishwasher and it drives me nuts when the husband screws it up! :)

    • says

Same here, Shikha! Lol… I have this cute little cast iron skillet- it’s only 6 inches across. It worked great! But I did have to keep spritzing with non-stick spray after every crepe. May just be because it’s new and not really well-seasoned yet 😉

This cake is so amazing. I’m always impressed by your creations Allie! Though I have to admit, I’d much rather cook dinner than clean up :) I love the look of a clean kitchen, but I’m always hoping some little fairy will visit in the middle of the night to make it happen, lol Pinning this recipe, of course. I can’t wait to see your post with the cake and all its steps… looked like chocolate covered espresso beans on top, maybe?? Your blog makes me happy!

  8. says

What a gorgeous, rustic and totally doable cake, Allie! Talk about something different. I am going to make this for sure next time I host brunch. And by the way, I am the exact same way about cleaning the kitchen!! It’s so satisfying when everything is pristine and you can look around, take a deep breath, and turn off the light for the night. Are we crazy!?
