I’m about to say something that we’ve all probably heard and said ourselves about a bazillion times over the last week or so, but …

Can you believe the summer’s just about over already???

Seriously.  It went so fast this year.  It’s like I blinked my eyes, and suddenly I’m buying notebooks and pencil cases.

What a fun summer it was though.  I’m so grateful to Nutella and Mode Media for essentially sponsoring my summer here on Baking a Moment.  We enjoyed so many yummy treats made with Nutella!  Here’s a little recap:

That is a lot of different ways to enjoy Nutella, am I right?

But the truth is, the number one way Nutella is eaten, at my house anyway, is  smeared on a little whole wheat mini bagel.  It’s my 5 year old’s favorite breakfast and he eats it on the regular.

Since we talked about my favorite hobby in my last Nutella post (baking, duh),  I thought it would be fitting to try and share the happiness baking brings me with a loved one.  Since the little guy loves his mini bagels so, and working with dough is such a fun sensory thing for kids, we decided to tackle our own homemade version.

I made the dough and let it rise while they were at camp, so shaping the bagels was a fun afternoon activity for them.  By the time we had formed all of them (we made 16 altogether), their attention spans had already run out and I was able to boil and bake them off in peace, while they played in the backyard and watched a Sponge Bob episode.

If you’re a regular reader here, then you probably already know that I’m no expert when it comes to baking with yeast.  Give me cake any day, but when it comes to yeast, I haven’t a clue.  So, instead of an original recipe developed by moi, I turned to the experts.  Click here to follow the same recipe I used.  It’s by my friend Sherri, who blogs at The Well Floured Kitchen.  She’s an expert baker and she blogs a lot of great, healthy bread recipes, so I knew I could count on Sherri!

I found her tutorial to be easy to follow, and the result really blew us all away!  My hubby is a real bagel snob aficionado, and he really thought they were great.  Two thumbs up from Mr. Allie!  I may never buy a bag of supermarket bagels again 😉
